fOUNDER & dIRECTOR
Mel founded VoiceIt in 2017 as a student volunteering organisation with help from the Collingwood 1972 Club. Mel will be studying Social Science Research Methods at the UCL Institute of Education in London whilst working full-time at The Brilliant Club (and running VoiceIt!). Mel has over five years of extensive classroom experience, including teaching and judging for Debate Mate, the English-Speaking Union, and Noisy Classroom, as well as experience as a teaching assistant at Lingey House School in Gateshead. Mel's debate experience includes top 10 speaker awards at several school and university level national competitions, and experience as a judge at the 2019 World University Debating Championships in Cape Town.
eSl pROGRAMME LEAD & NORTH-AMERICA LIASON
Sophie Call recently graduated with a BA in Linguistics and Education from Wellesley College in the US, where she focused on English as a second language education in American public schools. She holds certification as an ESL teacher in the state of Massachusetts, and is currently working as a research assistant at the University of Kansas. She will be beginning an MSc in Applied Linguistics at the University of Glasgow in January 2021 to further study the policies that shape ESL education.
Working with VoiceIt has been a way to bring her knowledge and passion for ESL into practice, where she is currently helping to write oracy curriculum specifict tally for English learners. She is also excited to bring the VoiceIt programming across the ocean, and into American K-6 classrooms.
2019/2020 INTOSCHOOLS MENTOR
Anasuya Narasimhan studied PPE at Durham University and has been a VoiceIt Mentor since 2019. She is an active competitive debater at University and has participated in competitions across the UK, Europe, and Asia. Notably she broke as a judge at the European Universities Debating Championships in Athens, 2019. She enjoys working with and mentoring school students, and has been a mentor/judge with the English Speaking Union, and also judged prestigious schools competitions such as Durham Schools and Cambridge Schools Finals Day.
DURHAM Site assistant & INTOSCHOOLS MENTOR
Hailing from Singapore is second year Law student Carina, who loves debating as much as she loves her sports. Serving the community is a very big priority for her and she can’t wait to do so by spreading the love for public speaking to the leaders of the future. She was the mentor for Park View School last year and is looking forward to next year's intoschools programme.
